Course Description

Round Table Recording Company has developed a Recording Arts program in Indianapolis that combines multiple learning approaches including hands on experienceone-on-one instructionindustry level projects and group labs. Our Indianapolis music school is not new to education and what we offer is far more in-depth and extensive compared to other recording arts programs. We believe that keeping our students engaged and immersed in the studio environment helps them better retain knowledge and to be ready for the pace of the music industry.

Two days each week during the audio production program at our music school in Indianapolis will be instructor-led, one-on-one learning as well as in studio and take home projects and assignments. Our complex is comprised of three world-class recording studios. Students have access to our studios to further their education in a real world setting. Each student will be required to shadow a number of actual recording sessions throughout the week. Near the end of the program at our Indianapolis music school, each student is assigned a final project. This project will consist of working with a recording artist to complete their musical vision.

Why Us?

We are one of the leading Recording Studios in Indiana with a staff of highly talented producers, music producers, musicians, and audio engineers. We write, record, mix, and master great music every day. We pride ourselves on our creative and collaborative culture, and we know how to have fun while we work hard. What does this have to do with you? As a student in our Recording Arts program, you are surrounded by talented musicians, teachers, mentors, and artists while they are creating great music. You will be one with the family. Our studio culture is kind, respectful, honest, approachable, and trustworthy. We feel who we are and how we engage with students, is essential to cultivating our students’ passion, motivation, and confidence in developing their craft as audio engineers / music producers. Our hope is that our open and accepting environment will inspire you to try new things, appreciate all music genres, and ultimately find your place in the music business.

Our Education Approach

Our Recording Arts Program consists of both Music Production classes and Audio Engineering classes, developing and nurturing both the technical and creative talents of our students. We believe it is essential to provide teaching methods that embrace multiple forms of learning — our Recording Arts program is delivered through a combination of reading, video, hands-on, and observation.

A diverse selection of study materials

While we source our educational text materials from renowned experts and established audio professionals and vet all content for quality and accuracy, we don’t rely solely on the textbook to provide you with the concepts. With a combination of compelling video content to provide a visual learning experience as well as hands-on projects the diverse variety of media and practice will prepare you for your one-on-one lessons.

One-on-One Lesson

The Recording Arts program topics can be challenging. Some students pick up the concepts very quickly, while others can find it difficult. Our instructional approach allows mentors to understand your needs, learning styles, and experience level and tailor what and how they teach. If your struggling with a given skill or concept, they can drill down on those items in the lesson and provide additional support to focus on shoring up your knowledge and restoring your confidence. Each of the available music production and audio engineering classes that you’ll take here builds on the last, so we can address gaps in your knowledge early and often. Our one-on-one instruction provides the flexibility to give you the attention you need.

Lab work

Most of our lessons require you to practice the skills you learned during your study and one-on-one instruction. Our studio C and student lesson room provide you the opportunity and creative space to practice these skills and complete your lab work for evaluation by the instructor. If you are like us and want to learn as much as possible, you can try our extracurricular materials that provide more advanced practice and challenges. Students who take on these extra challenges can earn our distinguished “Certificate of Endorsement.”

Projects

We believe learning by doing is very effective and we prioritize this at our Indianapolis music production school. We include various projects, both big and small, that you will be required to complete during your tenure. These projects are targeted at real-world applications and are both challenging and fun.

Student Assessment

We want to make sure you have learned the materials effectively. We perform a student assessment midway through the program as a checkpoint to gage your understanding/skills for all the topics you have learned so far. This assessment is designed not to be a high-pressure, nail-biting experience but rather a fun, light-pressure exercise to see what you may need more time to master. Any shortcomings identified during your assessment will result in a one-on-one follow-up lesson to go through each item. We want to prepare you for more hands-on participation and get you ready for your final project.

Session Shadowing

You will attend a minimum of 25 hours of session shadowing during your time in the Recording Arts program. Shadowing provides the best opportunity to observe and develop session management skills, interpersonal communication, and maximizing artist performance. Attending sessions provides real-world experience that helps you do your best when running your sessions. Everyone has their own approach, personality, and session leadership style. Watching talented engineers and producers successfully and effectively work through the many challenges that can and do occur during a session is an invaluable advantage.

Grading and Certification

We feel it is essential to know where you stand and be accountable for the effort you put into the Recording Arts program. We provide students with a point score for each lesson, lab, project, and the number of shadowing hours. We also grade for punctuality and preparedness for your class. The points are totaled at the end of the program and will determine the certificate you will receive. Our three certificates are; Certificate of Completion, Certificate of Achievement, and the Certificate of Endorsement.
