Course Description

Round Table Recording Company has developed a comprehensive Recording Arts program in Indianapolis that skillfully combines multiple learning approaches to enhance the educational experience. This includes hands-on experience, small group instruction, collaborative industry-level projects, practiced sessions with clearly defined outcomes to ensure understanding, and individual labs. Our Indianapolis music school is not new to the field of education, and what we offer is far more in-depth and extensive compared to other recording arts programs currently available. We firmly believe that keeping our students consistently engaged and fully immersed in the studio environment significantly enhances their ability to retain knowledge and prepares them for the demanding pace of the music industry.

Two days each week during the audio production program at our music school in Indianapolis will feature instructor-led, small group learning, as well as a blend of in-studio and take-home projects and assignments. Our complex is comprised of three world-class recording studios that provide exceptional facilities for our students. Each student will be required to actively participate in various in-class projects and will also have the opportunity to observe an authentic real-world session environment. Near the end of the program at our Indianapolis music school, you and your classmates will be assigned a final project. This comprehensive project will consist of collaborating with a recording artist to bring their musical vision to life through all phases, including recording, editing/mixing, and mastering. Students that graduate with our Certificate of Endorsement, are provided the opportunity to extend their learning in our Assistant Engineering Program. Candidates interview for this opportunity and those selected receive personalized individual development for and additional six months.

What does this have to do with you? As a student in our Recording Arts program, you are surrounded by talented musicians, teachers, mentors, and artists while they are creating great music. You will be one with the family. Our studio culture is kind, respectful, honest, approachable, and trustworthy. We feel who we are and how we engage with students, is essential to cultivating our students’ passion, motivation, and confidence in developing their craft as audio engineers / music producers. Our hope is that our open and accepting environment will inspire you to try new things, appreciate all music genres, and ultimately find your place in the music business.

Our Education Approach

Our Recording Arts Program consists of both Music Production classes and Audio Engineering classes, developing and nurturing both the technical and creative talents of our students. We believe it is essential to provide teaching methods that embrace multiple forms of learning — our Recording Arts program is delivered through a combination of reading, video, hands-on, and observation.

A diverse selection of study materials

While we source our educational text materials from renowned experts and established audio professionals and vet all content for quality and accuracy, we don’t rely solely on the textbook to provide you with the concepts. With a combination of compelling video content to provide a visual learning experience as well as hands-on projects the diverse variety of media and practice will prepare you for your one-on-one lessons.

Small Group Lesson (5 students max)

The Recording Arts program topics can be challenging. Some students pick up the concepts very quickly, while others can find it difficult. Our instructional approach allows mentors to understand your needs, learning styles, and experience level and tailor what and how they teach. If your struggling with a given skill or concept, they can drill down on those items in the lesson and provide additional support to focus on shoring up your knowledge and restoring your confidence. Each of the available music production and audio engineering classes that you’ll take here builds on the last, so we can address gaps in your knowledge early and often. Our small group instruction provides the ability to give you the attention you need.

Lab work

Most of our lessons require you to practice the skills you learned during your study and small group instruction. If you are like us and want to learn as much as possible, you can try our extracurricular materials that provide more advanced practice and challenges. Students who take on these extra challenges can earn our distinguished “Certificate of Endorsement.”

Projects

We believe learning by doing is very effective and we prioritize this at our Indianapolis music production school. We include various projects, both big and small, that you will be required to complete during your tenure. These projects are targeted at real-world applications and are both challenging and fun.

Student Evaluation

We want to make sure you have thoroughly learned the materials effectively and are prepared for your future challenges. We consistently challenge our students in every lesson to encourage growth and understanding. Our in-class projects give us a clear and comprehensive evaluation of a student’s grasp of the knowledge and skills necessary to be truly successful in their endeavors. The practice sessions and lab work not only provide the feedback on students' understanding of each topic and skill but also allow for the application of their knowledge in practical scenarios. We strive to create an environment where students feel comfortable and supported in sharing any difficulties they may be facing. Furthermore, we provide the necessary encouragement and support while ensuring that they develop the personal drive and confidence needed to actively seek out the answers on their own.

Session Observation

You will get to watch live recording sessions in the Recording Arts program. This is a great way to learn session management, communication, and how to improve artist performance. Attending these sessions gives you hands-on experience for running your own. Each engineer and producer has their own style and approach, and seeing how skilled professionals handle various challenges is very helpful. Instructors also share their insights, enhancing your understanding of recording skills and their impact on client relationships and project outcomes.

Grading and Certification

We feel it is essential to know where you stand and be accountable for the effort you put into the Recording Arts program. We provide students with a point score for each lesson, lab, project, and the number of shadowing hours. We also grade for punctuality and preparedness for your class. The points are totaled at the end of the program and will determine the certificate you will receive. Our three certificates are; Certificate of Completion, Certificate of Achievement, and the Certificate of Endorsement.
